What is your identity and how do you feel empowered?
Of all the roles I play professionally and personally, I most identify with my role as a mother/wife/daughter and last but definitely not the least, a friend. These people empower me to pursue my dreams and interests, be it professionally or something as mundane as trying to cook a new dish or singing a new song.
You left India in the 90’s and have been in the USA since then, what do you miss about the Indian culture and how do you stay connected?
I miss so many things about India but I most miss the vibrant chaos of people randomly dropping by at any given time of the day. I have tried to continue to surround myself with people who have a positive impact on me and I hope to continue to do so in the future.
When it comes to sarees, I think of it as my second skin. Its the equivalent of the Ballroom gown for me and the beauty of the saree is there’s one for every season, occasion and mood.
Can you share a memory of your first drape?
I think I was 18 when I first wore a pink and green Mysore silk for Diwali and I don’t believe I had ever felt more elegant or feminine before that! A saree, forever will remain my favorite attire in or out of India!
